Preparing For A Natural Birth

I'll start off by saying that I've always been passionate about natural birth, so I knew exactly what I wanted and I was SO willing to prepare for it. I believe that if more women planned their birth like they prepared for their weddings, that an "unconventional" birth like mine may become the new normal! During my pregnancy, I worked hard to take care of myself and prepped for my dream birth by doing these four things:

1. I stayed active. I have always been a very active person -- it stresses me out just sitting around. So, I continued my daily walks and weight lifting throughout my pregnancy. Yoga, hiking and swimming are excellent activities to do during pregnancy! Staying active definitely helped physically prepare me for childbirth.

2. I got adjusted. I'm so spoiled -- I grew up in a chiropractic family! I've been adjusted since birth. So, it's safe to say that I'm used to getting adjusted regularly. Once I got pregnant, I amped up my bi-weekly adjustments to every week. I didn't have back pain during my pregnancy at all. And, I know the adjustments helped my labor move SO quickly! Read all about the benefits of prenatal chiropractic care here.

3. I continued my healthy diet. I didn't use pregnancy as my excuse to "eat for two." I ate when my body was hungry and continued my healthy, well-balanced, whole food diet. Because my diet was so well rounded, I never had any crazy pregnancy cravings. My body and baby were getting the nutrients that they needed! I also supplemented my diet with food-based prenatal vitamins!

4. I read/watched lots of birth stories. To mentally prepare for labor, I loved reading and watching YouTube videos about other women's birth experiences. There's nothing more comforting than realizing just how normal birth is. Read my birth story here.

What did you do to prepare for your childbirth? Let me know!
